Short Term Care at HWAH

Planning a trip and not able to take your dog with you? We got you!

House with a Heart (HWAH) provides in-home short-term dog care in Gaithersburg, Maryland, for friendly dogs of all ages, especially seniors and those with special medical needs. When your dog stays with us, they become part of the HWAH family and enjoy the same love, comfort, and attention as our sanctuary residents.

When you’re away, you can rest easy knowing your dog is safe, happy, and cared for around the clock.

What We Offer

  • In-home short-term care for friendly dogs – no kennels or crates
  • Free Get-Acquainted Visits to help your dog feel comfortable
  • A caregiver on premises 24/7 for supervision and companionship
  • Spacious grass yards for supervised outdoor playtime
  • Caring volunteers who provide one-on-one time and enrichment
  • Open private pens when needed for comfort and rest
  • A staff-monitored camera surveillance system for added peace of mind

At HWAH, our goal is to make every dog feel at home while giving pet owners complete confidence in their pet’s well-being.

If you have not yet visited HWAH you should plan on coming for a visit without your pet.  Visiting hours are by appointment Saturday between noon and 2pm. Please email hwah.lori@yahoo.com to set up an appointment.

Get Acquainted Visits for First Timers:  Once you have visited HWAH and decided that we would be a good fit for your pet, we REQUIRE a Get Acquainted Visit to familiarize your pet with HWAH. Dogs must pass the GA visit before we can care for them. GA Visits are a free service, available by appointment, Monday through Saturday.

The suggested value is $50.00 for the first dog, and $30.00 for each additional dog, per night.

All proceeds support the House with a Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary, helping provide lifelong care for senior and special-needs pets.
