Message from our Director, Sher:
What’s new??? Oh goodness!!! It is 2026 and we are already into April!!
And since it’s 2026, that means this is our 20th year saving senior and special needs pets! We have loved and cared for 148 dogs and cats over those 20 years and since 2017, have helped 107 to receive necessary medical care to get ready to be adopted through our rescue partners. Those might not be ginormous numbers by some standards but that has been a lot of love, happiness and even heartbreak. We are hoping for at least another 10 years of Love Lives Here at House with a Heart! There is always more work to be done.
We are so blessed to have a fabulous team of volunteers helping us to keep the Sanctuary inside and out in tip top shape so the residents have safe and clean accommodations and spaces to explore outside!! Each shift ends with lots of snuggle time and loving. Since most of our residents are seniors I have noticed many of our volunteers take the time to stop and pat, kiss or just hold onto each of them before they leave. They know that it could be the last time they see them…it shows how very much they care and I am so grateful for so many loving hearts.
We have two big projects this Spring:
Number One is to update our emergency plan. This past winter with all of the snow and frigid temperatures made alarm bells go off! We heard of way too many house fires and we worried what would we do with all of our residents and visitors if we had an emergency! Hershey would not do well if he had to be put outside in a snowbank!!!
Our volunteers Karen and Chris are working to update our Emergency plan on paper for who to call, and where we would transport everyone if we had to vacate the house for a period of time. We are also getting estimates to upgrade our existing shed so it will be more weather proof, have a battery operated generator so we could have heat or a fan if needed. This is one of those things that you hope you will never ever need, but if you fail to plan – you will plan to fail. There are too many precious souls living or visiting here that failure to provide them safety in an emergency is not an option. I hope you might think about this for you and your family as well. Once we know what the costs will be we will let everyone know.
Number Two – We already have an estimate of $3,000.00 to add a roof to the outside framework that covers one of our artificial grass yards. We usually cover the framework that the Eagle Scouts built for us with a tarp for the summer to offer shade so the grass doesn’t become too hot and the pups can even go under it if it is a gentle rain. Having the roof added will mean we will be able to use that space all year round and our tarp that is getting a bit ragged and has to be put up and taken down will be a thing of the past. This will be a wonderful way to improve the lives of our residents and visiting pups.
If you would like to help, please follow this link, and choose “Special Projects” in the drop down menu. Or simply write the project you would like to support in the comments. Thank you. https://housewithaheart.com/support-hwah-2/
Also, we hope to raise $20,000.00 for our K-9 and Kitty Medical Miracle Grant Program that helps us to save more seniors and special needs pets. Be on the lookout through the year for ways that you can help us to reach our goal.

So our 20th year will be a repeat of all the years gone by – doing everything we can to make sure we provide the best life possible for all our residents, and saving as many as we possibly can!! Thanks to all of you for your loyal support!!
THANK YOU!!!!! XXOO Sher
