There are two new angels in Heaven today.
Losing one of House with a Heart’s precious souls is tragic. Losing two in the same day is indescribable.
Sammy, a little white poodle came to us from North Carolina, where he had been surrendered to a shelter by his owners. He was in poor shape and awaiting euthanasia.
Maggie, a pretty dachshund, joined us when her elderly owner could no longer live independently and needed to move in with family without Maggie.
Through the years, both dogs enjoyed a pampered life at the Sanctuary. They brought us such joy and laughter and reinforced the value of the Sanctuary’s mission. Their lives made ours better.
Over time, we watched these two cuties age. Maggie’s pretty face turned to white and Sammy’s fluffy fur thinned. His soft ears turned from white to black, which gave him a comical look. Both suffered mobility issues, slept most of the time, and more and more often couldn’t negotiate their way out of their doggie beds to go potty. Mama Sher lovingly cared for them, bathed them, and did whatever needed to be done to keep them comfortable.
Unfortunately, no matter how much we want to keep our charge with us, we can’t. We can never allow our residents to suffer and or to lose their dignity. We had to finally let them go.
Now our hearts ache. Tears fall. We will see Maggie and Sammy in all the places we expect them to be. We will never forget them
Rest easy now, sweet pups. You will remain in our hearts until we meet again.
