We’d like to introduce you to Piper. She is the sweetest and most lovable girl you’ll ever want to meet. It has been love at first sight for all of us. This charming little 8-month-old beagle is being fostered at House with a Heart as one of our Buster’s Buddies.
House with a Heart developed our Buster’s Buddies program to help other rescues and groups by providing temporary care for pups waiting for their forever home. They are not HWAH residents, but are cared for as if they were part of the HWAH family. Sometimes our Buster’s Buddies pups are not seniors but have other special needs. Piper is such a case.
Unfortunately, this precious little gem wasn’t enjoying life when she first arrived at the Sanctuary at 6 months old. She was very ill when she was brought to us and we immediately brought her to the vet. At first we thought she had a liver shunt but testing showed that multiple organs were enlarged. She was also anemic, extremely lethargic and weighed in at a tiny 6.5 pounds when she should be closer to 25 pounds or more. She went untreated at the kennel where she was born and continued to get worse. When Piper arrived at HWAH we all thought it likely that it would be simply for Hospice care and we prepared ourselves to lose her.
When Piper first arrived she was very quiet, slept a lot, and wasn’t interested in eating. With all of the love, attention and good medical care, Piper has steadily improved. She now plays with toys and romps and runs with Monroe and Sally constantly making us laugh. Just the other day she regaled us with her first Beagle Bay – it was so wonderful that we were all in tears.
We have given Piper lots of supportive care and each week her blood work has slowly improved. However, the most recent blood test still indicates that her liver is not performing well so Piper will need to have a laparoscopic liver biopsy.
We want to provide Piper with the very best medical care in order to give her a chance at as normal a life as possible. We want to help her get well so that she can find her very own loving forever home. Thank you for your continued support. Because of your commitment to our Sanctuary and the pets we serve, we are able to offer assistance to sweethearts like Piper and give them the gift of life.
