❤️House with a Heart’s Legacy of Love: 2009 Humane Award of the Year given to HWAH ❤️
Let’s set the scene…. it was 2009, and our Director and Founder, Sher, was being awarded the Humane Award of the Year by the Montgomery County Humane Society because of her creation: House with a Heart!!!
Here is an older article we had written about the event shared by our former VP Harriette:
“I remember one very special occasion when Sher did leave the house without a fuss. It was November 7, 2009, and House with a Heart was receiving the Montgomery County Humane Society’s Humane Award in recognition of its work on behalf of homeless animals. Several of our most experienced volunteers remained with the gang at the Sanctuary. Sher had fed the dogs and let them outdoors and they were snoozing in their beds or on the sofas. Sher and I, dressed to the nines, were off to the Ball, two middle-aged Cinderellas out for a night on the town. The company was terrific, the food was great, and Sher was out on the dance floor, thoroughly enjoying herself.
When she was called upon to come up to the podium to accept the Humane Award, she spoke as a photo presentation of life at the Sanctuary was projected on a screen behind her. She accepted the Award in memory of her late husband, Joe, and in honor of our House with a Heart residents, past, present, and future.
Her acceptance speech was extremely emotional and brought tears to the eyes of her audience. I’ll always have wonderful memories of that evening. When I dropped Sher off at home, everything was fine, there had been no catastrophes, and the dogs had been on their best behavior. All was well.”
