Greetings from Sher
As I look back on nearly 20 years of so much life and love at House with a Heart, I think about how often I’m asked, “How have you been able to care for HUNDREDS of senior and special needs pets over so many years?” The answer: It Takes a Village! And what do I mean by a “village?” The heartbeat behind our Sanctuary is the wonderful group of people who collectively make it all happen — every hour, every day, and every year!
Our volunteers are so very important, as the list of what they do sometimes seems endless! They help with caring for the residents and short-term care visitors, upkeep of the sanctuary and grounds, fundraising, social media, veterinary transport, and more. And they even look out for the old lady in the mix – ME! I’m so grateful when they bring me treats or flowers when we lose one of our beloved animals, or share their stories with me. Their hugs, love, and support so enrich my life, as well as every resident critter at the Sanctuary!
Our Forever Foster families provide love and care for our residents who are happier in a more calm and quiet home environment rather than the pack at the Sanctuary. It’s always amazing to me how some dogs are happy in the pack, and they flourish, and others will gravitate to one person and there is no mistake that they have made a choice! When that happens, we always try to honor their wish and place them in the best Forever Foster home.
Our donors, whether making one-time or recurring contributions, make it possible for us to provide top-quality food, supplements, medications, and medical care for all our residents. One of my tasks is to prepare donation receipts, and I’m always amazed at the generosity of our donors and I marvel at the different addresses! It’s incredible that there are so many people all over the WORLD who love our seniors and care about our mission. I’m often brought to tears by the notes that are included with donations, and hearing these personal stories from our supporters makes me feel even closer to that part of our Village.
The spirit of House with a Heart is in all these dedicated individuals who come together to give our residents endless love and the best care possible. And with you by our side, we will continue our unwavering determination to give these wonderful creatures the extraordinary lives they deserve.
My profound respect, admiration and GRATITUDE for all of you who make up the Village!
Hugs and HOPE — always.
