Senior Rescue Chihuahua ‘Adopted’ Fellow Senior Dog and It’s the Sweetest

Rescue organizations work miracles with abandoned and abused dogs on a regular basis, though senior dogs are often overlooked by potential adopters due to their age and possible health issues. Thankfully, there are rescues that focus specifically on older pets and provide them with a permanent home.

House With a Heart is one of those special places that takes in senior dogs and cats, giving them a place to call home with lots of love, attention, and furry friends.

In the TikTok from @seniorpetsanctuary, two senior Chihuahuas were snuggled up together on a couch. The smaller Chi named Hershey was tenderly licking his pal Peanut as the two just chilled. These pooches have been pals for quite a while.

“Hershey adopted Peanut 10 months ago and has been by his side every single day,” the onscreen text explained.

Hershey must have felt he needed to take Peanut under his wing — or paw — and made sure that he had a forever friend. The precious pooches have formed an unbreakable bond as they enjoy this new chapter in their lives.

Some Background on Hershey and Peanut

Hershey was taken in at the Sanctuary when his parent could no longer care for him. At 15 years old and just 4 pounds, this charming Chi has already won everybody over. Though Hershey needed two surgeries on his legs due to his knees being out of place, he recovered like a champ and doesn’t let anything slow him down.

Peanut’s story was more traumatic. The little Chihuahua was dumped onto a busy roadway and had been shot by a BB gun. He suffers from a deformed back, dental disease, an ulcerated eye and a heart murmur. This adorable 7-pound pooch is estimated to be about 12 or 13 years old and even with all his ailments, Peanut has the biggest and sweetest heart. The Sanctuary is committed to nursing him through his health issues and providing him with a loving home at House With a Heart

No wonder why Hershey took it upon himself to pair up with Peanut — he knew he needed a friend.

House With a Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary provides senior dogs and cats with everything they need to live their best lives.
