Donna’s family

Friends, our supporter Donna M. has been an angel to many a critter in need.  When she sent us her story a few weeks ago, we knew we had to post it for all to read.  Please join us in thanking Donna for all of her good works!

“I have been fortunate enough to have had many animals in my life. Since moving to Tennesee I first came here with my Chi, my beautiful cat I pulled out of an 8′ swimming pool at our hotel at my son’s Navy graduation while she was trying to get a drink. She was 7 weeks old; that was back in 1990. She passed on Aug. 6, 2006. My other guy who moved with me here was Kaymom, my mini Schneider whom I pulled out of a flea market puppy mill. He was only 7-8 weeks old in 1997 and my little man passed at the age of 17 on Christmas Eve 2014.

I then was adopted by 3 beautiful 2 month old puppies sitting in the back yard of my home.  That was back in 2005 – so much pleasure from these 3, so at the time we had 5 new family members in our home all told. The puppies were Jake, Tip, & Sammy. At the age of 2 Jake got glaucoma and lost his sight. Before he was 3 he was totally blind but nothing ever stopped him from being the family clown and love of my life. He was my Scallyway wiggle butt and forever funny. But when anything ever went wrong around here on the property Jake was always the one who got the worst end of it for some reason. Be it a bee sting, his got infected. He found a twig, it got caught sideways in his throat. He always shook things off and continued about. The strongest little bugger you ever knew. He was so so special, and last night I lost him at 6:52 pm as he passed on. He would have been 11 on July 20th. My heart breaks for him terribly.

I also have my Max who was abandoned at our church as a pup. He is a beautiful part chow and so so pleasing to be around. So mild mannered so loving and we also acquired 3 little terrier pups from my farmer friend who found their mama in her barn and she gave birth to 4 female pups and the farmer tried to get them good homes but no one wanted them. She called the shelter, they said they put them down after 3 days, so she called me. I took the 3 and her husband wanted the other one. So Cocobean, Tiffany & Marley are now rambunctious 2 year olds.

We also have baby girl who is my rescued Geiger where she was abandoned on deaths door steps at 2 days old when I found her in the woods of the pasture full of scours, her hind end and tail half eaten. I nursed her back and today 9 years later she is a  beauty who loves strawberries. I also own a set of Southdown Babydolls of which we lost one of our beautiful babies a few years back from heat and stress. They were a set of triplet ewes, MaryIate, Cilliann & Caioliann.

My home life lives around all these babies and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My heart breaks at my loss of them when they are called to go home as I know they are only on loan to me from God to love and cherish. But while they’re here they make my life complete and for that I am surely blessed.”

When we asked Donna if we could share her story, this was her response:

“That would be wonderful, maybe some other folks out there would see it’s not that hard to open up your heart & doors, I keep mine wide open!”
