REMMI – a rescue with a Happy Ending..
When Remmi was touched, she trembled, so scared as to where she was going, and she what would have to face. But she seemed to sense something was different this time. It was caring and kind hands she was placed in, however she was not able to bring herself to trust or even hope she would have a better life.
“Our Save a Yorkie Rescue volunteer immediately got her the veterinary care. Upon examination of the tiny pup, we learned she is emaciated, anemic and suffering from ear infections, dehydration, in advanced stages of dental disease, terrible skin issues from undernourishment, covered in feces but was far worse was the condition her eyes were in. When diagnosed at the shelter she was thought to be blind, however on further and more intensive inspection it was discovered that Remmi was suffering for years of chronic dry eye syndrome compound from the dehydration.
The good news is with treatment and medication the vet believes her eyesight can be saved. The vet let us know Remmi weighs just 7lbs. and is at least 2lbs. underweight. She was given treatment, medications, fluids, blood testing, and nutritional supplements to improve her conditions.
Yesterday we received positive news. Remmi’s blood work was showing signs of improvement which needless to say we were all grateful for. Our volunteer reports Remmi is sleeping quite a bit but, considering all she has been through this is normal. She has begun to both eat and drink. We are hoping with proper diet and nutrition her skin, coat and blood count will continue to improve over time. We hope with lots of TLC we will see signs of her personality to emerge from her shell.
This just goes to show you the work that is done here at Save a Yorkie Rescue. When a sick and broken dog is in need, we reach out to help. We take many critically sick and severely injured dogs that never would have a chance of survival without the help and support of Save a Yorkie Rescue to provide them with the lifesaving medical care and surgeries needed to save the lives of these beautiful dogs. Remmi will have a second chance to live a happy and healthy life in a loving home with great pet parents and we are happy to be the ones to give her that chance.
