In 2017 we established our K-9 & Kitty Medical Miracles Program to help save even more senior and special needs pups and kitties. We now partner with 40 rescue groups nationwide that pull a senior or special needs dog or cat from a shelter, and then HWAH provides a grant for the necessary medical care to prepare the pet for adoption or foster care.
Today we’re sharing some of our favorite success stories providing “New Beginnings” – all of them a result of YOUR generous support enabling us to do this important work!
MEET THUMBELINA! This sweet kitty and her siblings and stray mom cat had been on someone’s porch for two months before being rescued by Forgotten Felines and Fidos. The kittens went to a foster home and were all adopted quickly, except Thumbelina.
Thumbelina was the tiniest of her litter, and as she was examined during her veterinarian check, she was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal and aural polyps in both ears. She needed Ventral Bulla Osteotomy surgery, where the middle ear is surgically opened to remove infected tissue and polyps.
Thanks to a grant from our HWAH K-9 & Kitty Medical Miracles Fund, Thumbelina was able to get the medical help she desperately needed – a wonderful NEW BEGINNING!
She recovered well and found her forever family, where she’ll have a wonderful and long life!
This year our program has helped give “New Beginnings” to 19 senior and special needs dogs and cats by providing medical grants, and with your help, we’ll continue this wonderful work in 2025!
