Little Old Mannie:

Save a Yorkie received a call about a stray, 4.5 pound, older Yorkie, that was turned in by good Samaritans. They knew nothing about him. He had no tags or microchip. He was terribly matted, very old, and his teeth were in terrible shape. They said that if Save A Yorkie didn’t take him, they would euthanize him.  They named him little old Yorkie, and recommended hospice care on his paperwork.

“SAY decided to take him and place him with us. We found that along with his bad teeth, he would drag his back legs when he walked, causing his paw pads to bleed from abrasion. So we wrapped his paws in baby bootys to protect them. He was in bad shape but he had life in him and a will to keep on living life into its next chapter. SAY named him little old Mannie.

After a grooming session, he saw our vet for the first time in who knows how long. They scheduled him for a dental cleaning, Determined that he had osteoarthritis, found an ulcer on his left eyeball that may be caused by dry eye, and thought that he had neurological issues causing his back legs to be weak. But his heart and lungs sounded good. His blood test revealed an infection he was suffering from, that they thought was related to his teeth, but his kidneys and liver levels were good. He was treatable and definitely not a hospice case.

We are treating his eye ulcer and dry eye with ofloxin and tacrolimus. He is getting metacam for his osteoarthritis. He is scheduled for a dental cleaning. And he is getting an antibiotic for his infection.

He is amazing the way he gets around and interacts with all of our other dogs. He loves them and especially our females. His favorite is our 75 pound black lab, Kelsey. After treatment, he even climbs the stairs to the second floor. Slowly, but he climbs them. He is living life and loving it. He has a family and a new chapter. He is so full of life and energy that we call him the energizer bunny. He never stops! And it’s all because Save a Yorkie decided to take a chance on him. He’s alive, happy, and doing great because of Save A Yorkie Rescue.

A Forever Foster is a dog that is either older, has a medical condition or a socialization issue and seem to be unadoptable only because we receive no applications for these dogs thus we assume no one wants to adopt them. Save A Yorkie Rescue will not euthanize a dog for these reasons and the dogs remain in rescue to live out their lives with their forever foster family. Their remaining years (no matter what age they are) are spent being well taken care of and loved in their forever foster homes. Save A Yorkie Rescue pays for all of their vet bills, including all medications they may be on, grooming, food/treats if on a special diet and any supplies one of these dogs may need.
