About 15 years ago now, House with a Heart was featured on The Today Show with Jill Rappaport!! Here is a story from our Director Sher about that surreal experience…
“One morning, as I was busy in the kitchen, preparing the set-ups for the next meal and finishing up the AM medications, the phone rang. An unwelcome intrusion as I was on task and didn’t want to get behind schedule! I looked at the incoming call display and saw that it was a NY number. Since I didn’t know anyone from NY I decided not to answer but let it go to voicemail. HOWEVER… something nudged me to pick up the phone.
You can imagine my shock and elation to hear that the caller was from the TODAY SHOW and wanted to do a special on House with a Heart!! I was so excited!! The chance to share our story and our vision to save Seriously Senior dogs and cats on such an amazing platform was a dream come true… I discovered that one of our volunteers, Judy, had contacted the Today Show and suggested that HWAH would make an interesting Human Interest story.
I immediately went into project mode and called on our most dedicated volunteers to help me prepare for the Today Show taping. Jill Rappaport and her crew arrived a week later. They were so gracious and put us all at ease. The pups behaved like pros, they were all especially cute and engaging. The show was a hit and we received lots of great publicity!!!
Because of the Today Show we not only received donations from people who wanted to support our mission, but we made many new friends, and welcomed many new volunteers. It gave us a wonderful boost and HWAH began to grow by leaps and bounds.”
